Country with stadium volume
People ask what kind of band we are, and I've learned that the first answer is never the one that helps. "Country rock" makes some folks think of one thing and "beach country" makes others think of another.
Here's my best attempt. The songs start in the same place the solo songs do: a porch, a boat, a bar at closing time, a town with more traffic than it has parking. The words are the words of somebody who lives on the Gulf Coast. But where the solo records are written for the quiet hours, these are written for a room full of people and a big sound system.
That changes everything about how a song is built. The chorus has to carry across a parking lot. The drums have to be able to hold up a crowd. The verse has to stay out of the way just long enough for everybody to catch their breath before they sing along.
So: country with stadium volume. Salt on it. Built for a Friday night and a room that already knows the words, or learns them by the second chorus.
If you want to see what I mean, the stadium songs are on this site. Start with "Turn It All the Way Up" and work your way down.
