One song at a time
I've changed how I'm finishing the album, and I want to tell you how, because it's made things calmer.
Instead of working on all fifteen songs at once and ending up with fifteen things that are almost done, I'm taking them one at a time, in the order they'll appear on the record. Song one gets finished before song two gets touched. Finished means it sounds the way I want it to and it's ready for anyone to hear.
It's slower on paper, but I always know exactly where we are. Right now that's the opener, and it's out. Next comes the second song, then the third, and on down the list until we reach the last one.
It also means I can put music out as I go. You don't have to wait for spring to hear what we've been up to. Some of the songs will reach you first as singles, and the album will gather them all up.
That's the plan. It's a simple one, and I like simple plans. They're the ones that actually get done.
