Season is starting

Around here, November is when the town changes. The heat finally lets go, the snowbirds start coming back, and the roads that were empty all summer get busy again.

I like it, even with the traffic. Restaurants have a wait again. The patios fill up. You can sit outside at night without wiping your face, and there's music coming from places that were quiet in August.

It's also when this band's songs make the most sense to me. They're about a Gulf Coast that's full of people: bridges backed up, a bar packed on a Friday, a beach that's finally comfortable to be on at sunset. A lot of the record was written in the thick of that, and it's good to be back in it.

If you live here, you know exactly what I mean. If you're visiting for the winter, welcome. Pick a patio, order something cold, and listen to whoever's playing. It's a good town to hear music in.
