The sound of a shoreline evening
Here's how I think about the loud songs. Picture a shoreline at the end of a long day. The light goes orange and everyone drifts toward the water. Somewhere, a speaker comes on. Somebody laughs at something that wasn't even funny. There's salt in the air and your feet are still warm.
That's the feeling I'm trying to turn into music. Not a party that shouts at you, but one that pulls you in. The drums come in strong so your chest knows what's happening. The guitars are big and bright like the sky. The chorus is for singing along even if you can't carry a tune. Especially then.
I live a few minutes from a beach where this happens every evening. A whole crowd faces west and the sun obliges. I figure if I can put a little of that into a song, then no matter where you are when you hear it, you'll feel the sand a little bit.
That's the goal. Keep your shoes off if you can.
